Attribute Values

You can find this section under Products > Attribute Values in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.

This page is where you add, edit and translate the distinct values of stock attributes, including translated values, held against each attribute. The values are used in your website’s product filters and navigation. Attribute values allow your customers to filter their searches and selections to find suitable products based on specific criteria.

Attribute values are assigned to specific stock items and define the characteristics of the product. An example of attributes for a dress are as follows:

Attribute Attribute Value
Age Group Adult
Colour Red
Gender Female
Material Cotton
Size Medium

Note that not all Stock items require a value for each Attribute and in some cases there will not be a suitable value for that Attribute. In such cases, you should not apply a value.

AttributeValues.aspx page

The main AttributeValues.aspx page appears as follows

Attribute Values screen in IRP Admin

You can use the search bar to search for any Attribute Value. If you expand Other Options you can select an Attribute Value from a drop-down list. You can also use the Translation drop-down list under the search bar to display all languages or only one selected language in the main grid.

The main grid shows the following details:

  • ID: This is the ID of the Attribute Value.
  • Attribute: This is the name of the Attribute associated with the Attribute Value.
  • Value: This is the name of the Attribute Value.
  • Translations: This shows the translations of the Attribute Value, if any. You can use the boxes to enter new translations. If you do so, make sure that you click the Update All Attribute Values button.
  • Uses: This shows the number of times that the Attribute Value has been used.
  • Delete box: Check this box if you want to delete an Attribute Value, then click the Delete Selected Attribute Values button.
  • Edit: Click this button to edit an Attribute Value. For more details, see the How To Add or Edit Attribute Values article in this section.

At the top of the page you can use the following buttons:

  • Attributes: Click this button to go to the Attributes.aspx. See Attributes for more details.
  • Models View: Click this button to go to the ModelsAttributes.aspx page where you can edit model Attribute Values.
  • Stock View: Click this button to go to the StockAttributes.aspx page where you can edit stock Attribute Values.

How To Add or Edit Attribute Values

You can enter or edit Attribute Values manually or in bulk.

Manual entry

To add or edit Attribute Values, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Products > Attribute Values in the IRP Admin left navigation menu.
  2. Click the Add New Value button at the top of the screen.
    The AttributeValueEdit.aspx page is displayed.
  3. Complete the following details:
    SettingDescription
Attribute Value ID This shows the ID of the Attribute Value. This is added automatically by IRP Admin.
Attribute Name Select the appropriate Attribute from the drop-down list to associate with the value. For example if you are creating values such as ‘Small’, Medium’ and ‘Large’, you would most likely be selecting an Attribute called ‘Size’. (The list of Attributes are taken from what you have previously configured in the Attributes section.)
Attribute Value Enter the value of the attribute. Also enter the translation of the value into any of the available languages listed. Note that, for languages that support masculine and feminine forms (e.g. French), you can add masculine (the default) and feminine values. These are used primarily for Left Navigation filtering on the front-end of the website but also for Attributed Keyword generation in the PPC Advanced section of the IRP (ask your IRP Account manager for details). Ultimately, for foreign language PPC Campaigns where the foreign language supports gender, by adding feminine PPC values, the keywords produced will be prepended or appended with gender-specific PPC Attribute Values based on the gender of the category that they refer to. This will be evident only in Attribute Category and Attribute Brand-Category keyword output.
Colours (Visible only for attributes that have the Is Colour setting set against them.) Select the hex values for the colours to show in the IRP colour swatch functionality to display swatches on all front-end listing pages. Use the built in colour picker control which shows a list of pre-approved, commonly-used colours along with the recommended colour name:

Leave these blank if no colour should display. A second colour is optional. When you specify a second colour, both colours will display in the same swatch circle.
  4. Click the Insert Attribute Value button to save the value.
You should see a ‘New Attribute Value Inserted Successfully’ message.

Bulk entry

You can add Attribute Values in bulk using the Import Stock Attributes section. Here you can create a Template File to which you add the Attribute Values, before uploading the Attributes File to update the Values in your IRP database.
